School Lunch Angels $1,000 Scholarship

School Lunch Angels, Inc. is honored to offer a $1,000 scholarship to support a Harris County student who wants to make a real difference in the health and well-being of children and families.

This scholarship is designed for students who are pursuing education in nutrition, agriculture, or health sciences, and who are committed to building healthier communities through their future careers.

Award Amount

• Scholarship Amount: $1,000

• Number of Awards: 1 (one) scholarship for the 2025–2026 cycle

• Funds are paid directly in support of tuition or approved educational expenses at the student’s chosen institution.

Application Requirements

A complete application packet must include:

1. Completed Application Form

   • All sections filled out clearly and legibly

   • Applicant signature

   • School counselor signature to verify transcript
     
     

2. Current High School Transcript

   • Official or unofficial, as required by the counselor

   • Must clearly show GPA and expected graduation date
     
     

3. Letter of Recommendation

   • From a teacher

   • Should speak to the student’s character, work ethic, and potential to succeed in their chosen field
     
     

4. Proof of Enrollment or Acceptance

   • Acceptance letter or other documentation from the intended college, university, or program
     
     

5. Essay (500 to 750 words)

   • Topic: Explain your postsecondary plans and how your future career will positively benefit the health and well-being of families and children in the community where you plan to live and work.

Deadline and Submission

• Application Deadline: March 27 at 3:00 PM

• How to Submit:

  • All materials must be submitted to the school counselor by the deadline.

  • Late applications will not be accepted.

Selection Criteria

The selection committee will review applications based on:

• Academic performance and readiness for postsecondary education

• Alignment of the applicant’s future plans with the fields of nutrition, agriculture, health sciences, or related areas

• Strength and clarity of the essay, especially the student’s vision for improving child and family health in their community

• Teacher recommendation and evidence of character, leadership, and service

School Lunch Angels, Inc. is a local nonprofit dedicated to lifting the burden of school lunch debt from families in Harris County and working hand in hand with our schools so that every child can count on a nourishing, worry free meal. By ensuring students have access to nutritious food, we help build a stronger and healthier future for our entire community.

Our scholarship program is one way we support student success through education, especially for those who are pursuing careers that will improve food security, health, and well-being for children and families.

Who is Eligible?

To be considered for the School Lunch Angels Scholarship, applicants must:

• Be a current high school student in good standing

• Have a minimum 3.0 GPA

• Plan to enroll in one of the following after graduation:

  • A 4 year college or university

  • A 2 year college

  • An accredited technical or certificate program

• Be pursuing advanced learning in preparation for a career in or related to:

  • Nutrition

  • Agriculture

  • Health sciences

  • Or closely related fields that support child and family health
    
    

Preference is given to students in Harris County, Georgia, in alignment with the mission of School Lunch Angels to support Harris County students and families.
